Google’s latest smartphones- Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) come with a new Extreme Battery Saver mode, which helps extend the battery life by limiting apps and features, like Samsung’s Ultra Power Saving mode. Google has also confirmed that the feature will be coming to older Pixel devices in an upcoming feature drop. The Extreme Battery Saver on Pixel pauses most of the active apps and features. Once enabled, only essential apps like Phone, Messages, Clock, and Settings will be accessible on the device. Furthermore, the CPU processing speed will be slowed down to maximize efficiency.

With the powerful Extreme Battery Saver mode, you would be able to run your phone for up to 48 hours on a full charge, which will be quite useful, especially when you’re traveling or out of power.

Steps To Use Extreme Battery Saver on Pixel:

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone.
  2. Navigate to the Battery menu.
  3. Now, click on Battery Saver > Extreme Battery Saver > When to Use.
  4. Here, select between ‘Ask Every Time,’ ‘Always Use,’ or ‘Never Use.’

If you choose “Ask every time,” it’ll ask you to turn on Extreme Battery Saver every time you enable the regular battery saving mode. Whereas, if you opt for “Always Use,” it’ll automatically enable Extreme mode when you enable the regular battery saver.

That’s it. Every time you enable the regular battery saver on your Pixel, it’ll either give you a prompt to turn on Extreme Battery saving mode or enable it automatically based on your preferences.

What Happens When You Turn On Extreme Battery Saver Mode?

  1. Most Apps are paused- you won’t get any notifications from them.
  2. Your phone’s processing is slowed down.
  3. Automatic WiFi and Bluetooth scanning for location turned off.
  4. The screen timeout is reduced to 30 seconds.
  5. Your work profile is turned off for the time being.
  6. Stops hotspot or tethering services.

If you want to use other apps while in Extreme mode, head to the “Select Essential apps” menu, and select the app that you don’t want to pause.
